The Need

***Note: Full COVID-19 Vaccination is Required for Participation***

Ukraine - Ukrainian refugeesThis situation is quickly becoming the largest humanitarian crisis in decades. As of 27 March 2022, around 3.9 million refugees had crossed from Ukraine to some seven neighboring countries. Most of those fleeing Ukraine are women and children.
International Medical Relief has expanded our field operations to Ukraine relief efforts in neighboring countries.  We always work toward sustainable long-term impact strategies that will transform tomorrow for so many. From securing much-needed medical supplies and equipment to standing shoulder to shoulder with our colleagues to provide medical and mental health support and be part of the solution.  Join us for an impactful trip as we work alongside our NGO partners to bring relief to the refugees.  Education is always at the forefront of our work with resources being dedicated to infectious disease prevention, health and hygiene.

International Medical Relief has partners in Ukraine, Moldova, Poland, Transnistria, and Romania.  Throughout this conflict, IMR will focus on the people first. The safety and security of our team is paramount. We are thoughtful, deliberate, and responsible in our strategic planning. As we serve, we will do so in a matter that honors those who are fleeing their homes, leaving their families, and seeking safety in neighboring countries.

This Mission

We are working with health agencies and local partners to provide the following relief services: acute primary medical and emergency medical services, dental care, mental health and continuing health education.  IMR has been working globally to prevent infectious diseases and will continue this work, as well as Covid-19 protection for the Ukraine refugees.

Our teams are required to be adaptable to rapidly changing conditions and have an understanding that rapid response teams require strength and compassionate care and service.  The war has resulted in devastating humanitarian consequences for the people, including lost livelihoods and limited access to healthcare as they embark on new territory and a new future. These refugees that fled conflict-affected areas have experienced incredible losses on multiple levels, compounding their suffering.

This trip is specifically for non-medical volunteers who want to lend aid to the displaced Ukrainians. You will be tasked with caring for Ukrainian children, including playing games and sports with them; helping at mealtimes; assisting with shelter organization; arranging activities for guests; welcoming new guests as they arrive; etc. If you are a medical professional and wish to volunteer, please see our trips for medical personnel.

Ukraine accommodations

You will be assigned your deployment location with one of our staffed clinics in the surrounding territories. This situation is fluid and lodging accommodations will be adjusted to meet the greatest needs of the people, but you will be staying at a 4-star US-based hotel chain. Volunteers will have transportation to and from our relief site daily.

Ukraine refugees

The war in Ukraine is creating an increasingly desperate humanitarian crisis. International Medical Relief teams aiding Ukraine refugees in the surrounding region are responding to the conflict by expanding access to medical, dental, mental health services and sustainable health education for those living in affected communities. Our highlight is helping the refugees and providing the lifesaving care they deserve.
