Regional Directors

AFRICA

Ibrahim & Diane Omondi

Ibrahim and Diane Omondi have been giving leadership to IMR in East Africa since 2006. They have assisted IMR with several key programs including HIV identification, prevention, and treatment in Kisumu; cardiac surgery for Ms. Dinah Mborn in 2008; and sustainable medical services, community-based education, and training.

Emma Phiri

Emma Phiri is a Dental Therapist and Tutor at a Dental Training School in Lusaka Zambia. Emma’s journey with IMR began in 2013 when she volunteered on the Senegal Mission as a dental therapist. Subsequently, she volunteered on the 2014 Ghana Mission. In 2016 she was the team leader for the Malawi and Tanzania missions. She has since headed up our regional efforts in Zambia in 2016, 2017, and 2018, and led two teams in 2019. Her dental students are the translators for the Zambian mission teams.

Dr. Norbert Mbwiliza

Dr. Norbert E. Mbwiliza began his work with IMR in 2015 and was appointed the Program Director of Tanzania where he has been very successful in reaching many people in Tanzania and Malawi. He is a teacher from the Sumbawanga National Teachers College. Dr. Norbert is a leading scholar in community leadership and development and has served thousands of poor communities in Tanzania and Malawi with IMR.

Mamadou Bamba Ndoye

Bamba has been working with IMR since 2007. He gained experience to manage the groups through the years and has helped us develop our path across the Senegal. IMR supports routine vaccination clinics and supports numerous communities year round in Senegal. We have conducted key programs here such as surgery for Halimatou in the US and helping to fight abuse and slavery in Thies, Touba and Kaolack. His passion is to continue to work with the Talibés boys and rural communities.

Shauna Vollmer King, MPA h.f.

President & Founder

Shauna Vollmer King is President and Founder of International Medical Relief, a Colorado based nonprofit organization dedicated to providing medical care to communities around the world that are underserved or have limited access to health care.  International Medical Relief is an NGO, 501(c)3 organization with 60,000 volunteers established in 2002. IMR is the largest providers of short-term medical care with a focus on primary medical, surgical, dental care and prevention using a teaching model of community health sustainability.  IMR responds to numerous disasters worldwide. Her international experience expands across 78 countries.  She works with governments throughout the world and their respective ministries of health and trade offices.  King also created the opportunity for medical professionals traveling abroad to earn exemplary accreditation by the ACCME to provide CME for physicians, and offer AAFP, AOA, ACEP, CFPC, ANCC, AAPA, and ACPE accreditations for physicians, NP’s, PA’s, and pharmacists.

Prior to this, she served in an executive management position at Centura Health from 1995-1999 where she oversaw all charitable community health and outreach activities with a budget totaling over 74 million dollars annually. She administered all doctor volunteer opportunities and disaster relief programs. Additionally, she oversaw and provided development for all of the system’s 50 statewide boards with over 500 board members throughout the system. As part of her work in the health care industry, King’s background includes state and federal health care legislation as well as serving on two major Colorado health care boards.  King is a published author in the health care field for both management and technical publications.

King focuses on enhancing group travel and class curriculums with real-world experiences. Her company provides immersion experiences and impactful opportunities designed to make the world seem a bit smaller. They give travelers the lens to take an in-depth look at a country, its culture, and its communities and go one step beyond through service opportunities that focus on UNSDGs to make a difference in the lives of others.

Shauna is currently a Fellow in the Global Health Leaders program at Harvard Medical School.  Shauna has a Master of Public Administration with a finance emphasis from The American University, Graduate School of Public Affairs, as well as a master health care management emphasis from the George Washington University, School of Health Services Management and Policy Institute, Washington, DC. Prior to this, she received a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Regis College of Regis University in Denver, Colorado.

King is a currently a member of the International Women’s Forum and Denver Women Leaders. King has served on boards including HELP International, Disaster Area Response Network, Colorado Flight for Life, Global Village Academy Northglenn, the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce Foundation Leadership Alumni Board, Global Development and Relief, and Bitcards USA.

King is a Colorado native.  Her family founded Vollmer’s Bakery in Denver, Colorado.  She and her husband have five boys and reside in Colorado.

Marina Rai

Marina has lead trips in countries throughout Asia for the organization since 2016. She has assisted with ground logistics, strategic partnerships and coordination in Cambodia. Marina states that “being with IMR is not just being part of a team, it is being a family. We’re able to help so many people because we work as one toward one common goal, which is to provide the best practices for our patients. We learn and share so much from one another.”

Anuj Pandey

Anuj Pandey is a young personality who is born and raised in Kathmandu, Nepal. He went to New Delhi, India for his Bachelors degree and has completed his Masters’ degree graduate in Innovation & Tourism Management from Fachhochschule Salzburg, Austria in 2015. He has been an avid traveller since his early age.

He assists IMR with all the logistics related to IMR travel in Nepal. He really enjoys being the Regional Director as he gets to meet new people from the medical field, learn much from them and most importantly travel to remote areas of his own country and provide medical assistance to needy people in the remote parts of the country. The IMR trips are so special to him.

Hasmik Ghalechyan

Hasmik has always had a drive to work on a bigger scale and make an impact on global level. Her main profession is intercultural communication and social development, which enables her to understand people from diverse backgrounds while serving the needs of local communities, be it in India or Armenia. Being the only Armenian in Jaipur, she learned Hindi and merged into the culture. Prior shifting to India she worked for 9 years with two NGOs for social development and children. She loves spicy food, good company of new people and enjoys seeing appreciation of people for the work she does.

David Biakkung

David Biakkung has been serving as Country Director of International NGO in Myanmar for over a decade. He and his wife are dedicated to numerous communities with compassionate care. With IMR, they provide training on sustainable health, disaster relief, and long-term solutions to community development.

PAN-AMERICA

Ana Paola Sanchez

Ana Paola Sanchez is a financier and businesswoman in Mexico that began working with IMR in 2014. She is passionate about community missions and projects, but with her background in administration and finances, never thought she would have the opportunity to be involved in medical missions. She is a regional director for our Panamerican Region and has lead trips to Panama in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2018. She has also lead trips to Peru in 2015 and 2017 and Cuba in 2019. Ana Paola says that “IMR has given me the invaluable opportunity to serve in many communities in different Latin American countries, the confidence to coordinate their tours and lead their teams. Above all, IMR has given me the opportunity to meet wonderful people who have influenced my life; serving alongside them has been a privilege.”

Patricia Lopez

Patricia and her husband, Dr. Lopez, began their work with IMR in 2002. Patricia resides in San Jose, Costa Rica with her husband of 30 years and 3 sons. She is a regional director for our Panamerican region, assisting IMR with logistics and mission operations in Costa Rica and Nicaragua.

Elizabeth Gimenez

Elizabeth Gimenez from Argentina has been living in Mendoza since 2003. She is a health agent, working in different community development programs and reaching out to the local community and slums. She also served in India in different medical camps.

Martin Peregrina

Martin Peregrina from Mendoza, Argentina has led the logistics of different medical camps both internationally and nationally. He has been involved in different community development projects, amongst them providing water to vulnerable communities.

Anniek van den Berge

Anniek van den Berge from the Netherlands has been in Mendoza, Argentina since 2010. She is mainly involved in logistics, communication, and translation during the medical camps.

Erwin Josue Martinez Garcia

Carrying on the legacy of a family tradition started by his father, Popeye, he has worked for many years to help others. His love for his country and desire to help the neighboring communities drew him to help doctors to come visit with his mission, ‘Love of Neighbor’. His work with IMR is a pillar for the health and well-being in these communities which he serves.

Dr. Rodrigo Ong “Dr. Butch”

Asia
Dr. Butch as he is fondly called brings the IMR volunteers to remote areas of the Philippines from coastal towns to the mountainous regions where natural disasters often hit. "IMR has a special place in my heart, through this organization, we are able to bring much needed medical relief to the people, especially the children in the coastal regions and in the mountainside which are hardest hit by disasters. At the end of the day after all the boat rides, trekking, and clinics, the smiles that we see are the only reward that matters.

Dr. Alfredo Lopez

Pan-America
Dr. Alfredo Lopez S. began his work with IMR in XXXX. He lives in San Jose, Costa Rica with his wife, Patricia, and 3 sons. He is an M.D. General Surgeon graduate from the University of Costa Rica Medical School. He and his wife are retired but seek to help as many people as they can through IMR in both Costa Rica and Nicaragua.
