Overview

The Need

International Medical Relief is staffing the congregate shelters in Colorado with medical support 24/7 to take care of the whole person. IMR will build health literacy while meeting people where they live. IMR provides staffing to handle and manage resident needs that otherwise go unmet. IMR’s management team will provide onboarding, orientation, and training at facilities to manage and handle patients. Sustainable continuing medical education is also provided to all residents.

These tasks include ADLs (activities of daily living) including showers, movement, de-escalation of behavioral health, proper disinfecting, and disposal of bodily fluids during the patient’s acute illness. Develop medical care and social plans for care and help the resident find appropriate sustainable resources. Patient education on current medical issues of residents and how to navigate the healthcare system. Monitor patients for escalating health issues, assess for COVID-19 symptoms and daily temperature checks with pre-quarantine and post-quarantine residents, and help to identify conditions such as acute cardiovascular issues, gunshot wound, surgical incisions, significant incontinence, toxic shock syndrome, colitis, gall bladder issues, MS and fibromyalgia, sickle cell anemia, broken ankle, upper respiratory issues, illicit drug use such as mamba, suicide attempts and more.

IMR is observing incredible change due to implementing education efforts and having the team serve as a sustainable and comfortable resource for guests, including reducing the guest’s dependency on emergency services.

The IMR team continues to collaborate with the City of Denver and partner organizations to improve the delivery of care, continuity, and services to the residents. Currently, the IMR team is partnering with other agencies to provide social work services, welfare checks, and activities of daily living (ADL) care. With all of these efforts, we are continuing to empower residents to take an active role in their own health and improve health outcomes while reducing the utilization of already overburdened city resources.

Our Work

Join International Medical Relief as we support training and patient care across Colorado. Your generous donation goes to advance all COVID-19 relief efforts that are currently underway.

SUPPORT
Assisted living, congregate living shelters and group housing face serious challenges and we want to give you the opportunity to support these growing needs. Help to provide medical care and health services to residents.

TRAINING
Congregate housing sites that are traditionally not staffed by medical providers need your help in training their staff to stop the spread of COVID-19. We need your support in performing valuable training about proper sanitation, use of PPE, infection control, isolation, cohorting. Our goal is to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and with proper knowledge at these facilities we can go a long way to keeping Colorado safe.

OPPORTUNITIES
Volunteer opportunities will take place in the Metro Denver area. From a central meeting location you will be directed to your volunteer role and exact address location for that day. Once your application has been reviewed, a member of our team will contact you to discuss this opportunity in detail.

Lodging/Transportation

While the main focus of your donation will be applied towards disaster efforts, your volunteer participation will include background check, credential, t-shirt, and supplies needed to carry out these efforts. If you will be joining the team from out of town and would like assistance with lodging, transportation, and meals, IMR can make this option available to you for an additional approximate $400. Please inquire at office@imrus.org for more information.
