Overview

The Need

While Mendoza is known for its agricultural heritage and growing tourism industry, access to healthcare is not equally available across the region. Families in smaller villages and underserved communities may face barriers to receiving consistent medical and dental care, preventive services, and health education.

For many residents, routine healthcare is difficult to access, allowing treatable conditions to go unaddressed and preventable health concerns to become more serious. Dental care is an especially important need, along with primary healthcare, women’s health, and ongoing education about disease prevention and family wellness.

International Medical Relief will work alongside local partners to bring care directly into these communities. In addition to medical and dental services, the team will emphasize practical health education, including mental health awareness, basic first aid, hygiene, preventive care, and recognizing when to seek medical attention.

The goal is not simply to provide care during a short-term clinic. It is to share knowledge, strengthen local relationships, and support healthier communities through education and collaboration.

Our Work

International Medical Relief first brought its mission of health and hope to Argentina in 2008. When a devastating H1N1 (swine flu) outbreak struck the communities of Lavalle and Mendoza in 2009, IMR responded quickly, deploying emergency disaster response teams to help address the growing healthcare needs.

During this critical response, IMR established a partnership with Youth With A Mission, working in collaboration with the administration of Robert Victorio Vighi, Mayor of Lavalle, to bring essential care to affected communities.

What began as an emergency response grew into a lasting commitment. Since then, IMR has continued returning to Argentina, building on those early relationships and extending access to compassionate medical care where it is needed most.

Today, that commitment represents approximately 4,000 patients served, and more than 125 volunteers and staff engaged in service.

Nearly two decades after our first mission, Argentina remains part of the IMR story—a testament to the power of partnership, sustained service, and the belief that everyone, everywhere deserves access to quality, compassionate healthcare.

This will be our first mission since 2023.

This Mission

Argentina is a country of extraordinary contrasts, stretching from the towering Andes Mountains in the west to the Atlantic coastline in the east. As the second-largest country in South America, its landscapes include expansive plains, deserts, forests, glaciers, and some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in the world. Its four principal geographic regions—the Andes, the North, the Pampas, and Patagonia—each offer a distinct culture, landscape, and way of life.

Your IMR mission takes you to Mendoza, nestled in the foothills of the Andes, a region celebrated for its vineyards, olive groves, fruit orchards, and vibrant local culture. Known internationally for its Malbec wines, Mendoza enjoys abundant sunshine and a distinctive climate that supports its agricultural heritage. The city itself offers lively plazas, welcoming cafés, wonderful cuisine, and a strong connection to the surrounding countryside.

One of the region’s most remarkable landmarks is Mount Aconcagua, rising 22,841 feet above sea level. Located within the Andes, it is the highest mountain in the Americas and the highest peak outside Asia. Its magnificent presence provides a breathtaking backdrop to the region.

For those looking to explore, Mendoza offers opportunities for horseback riding, whitewater rafting, cycling through vineyards, fly-fishing, and discovering the region’s celebrated food and agricultural traditions. There is plenty to experience during your time outside the clinic.

But the heart of this journey is the people of Mendoza.

Your clinic days will take you into smaller villages and underserved communities where access to consistent medical and dental care can be limited. Working alongside local partners, you’ll provide compassionate care, share practical health education, and build meaningful connections with individuals and families.

You’ll experience two sides of Argentina: the extraordinary beauty of its landscapes and the everyday lives of the communities who call this region home.

Come for the opportunity to experience Argentina. Be part of something meaningful through the people you serve.

Lodging/Transportation

This is an IMR Signature Mission, offering comfortable, clean, and safe four-star accommodations throughout your stay. Hotel details will be shared as arrangements are finalized, so stay tuned for additional information!

IMR will also coordinate safe, reliable transportation for your team to and from the community clinics, allowing you to focus on the mission and the people you are there to serve.

Room accommodations are based on double occupancy, with two volunteers , same gender, sharing a room. For those who prefer their own room, a single-room upgrade may be available for an additional supplement. Single supplements are subject to availability and pricing at the time of booking.

Enjoy the added comfort and convenience of a Signature Mission while staying focused on what matters most—bringing health and hope to the communities of Mendoza.

Highlights

The People. The Partnerships. The Purpose.

This mission is about the people who welcome us, the communities we serve, and the relationships we build along the way. Mendoza offers a unique opportunity to experience the generosity of local families, work alongside community leaders, and become part of something bigger than a week of medical clinics.

A Community That Welcomes You: Meet local leaders and families who are eager to welcome the IMR team. Experience firsthand the power of partnership and what can happen when communities come together around a shared purpose.

Care That Goes Beyond the Clinic: Connect with individuals and families through compassionate medical and dental care. Every patient has a story, and every interaction is an opportunity to make someone feel seen, heard, and cared for.

Knowledge That Keeps Giving: Share practical health education with community members, including mental health awareness, basic first aid, preventive healthcare, family wellness, and everyday hygiene. The skills and knowledge you share can continue making a difference long after the mission ends.

Learning Alongside Local Partners: Work shoulder-to-shoulder with local healthcare providers, community leaders, and volunteers. Share knowledge, strengthen relationships, and support sustainable approaches to community health.

Experience the Heart of Mendoza: Spend time with the people and families who make this region special. Discover local traditions, enjoy the hospitality of the community, and gain a deeper appreciation for the culture and people who welcome you.

The most meaningful part of this mission won’t be the places you visit or the things you see. It will be the people you meet, the lives you touch, the knowledge you share, and the connections that stay with you long after you return home.

Come ready to serve, learn, listen, and be part of something meaningful.

Arrivals and Orientation

Day 1

Your Argentina experience begins in beautiful Mendoza! You’ll arrive at Governor Francisco Gabrielli International Airport (MDZ), also known as El Plumerillo International Airport, where your IMR mission journey begins.

Please plan to arrive no later than 2:00 PM to allow time to connect with your fellow volunteers and participate in team orientation before dinner.

Upon arrival, your team will gather for an important mission briefing. Your International Team Leader will introduce IMR’s clinical protocols and field procedures, review the communities you’ll be serving in villages throughout the Mendoza region, and assign clinic roles based on team needs and individual professional experience.

You’ll also learn what to expect in the field, how clinic operations will work, and how each team member contributes to delivering compassionate, respectful, high-quality care.

Following orientation, enjoy dinner together! This is your opportunity to get acquainted, share what brought each of you to Argentina, and begin building the connections that will carry your team through the mission.

Your team is coming together. Your purpose is taking shape. And the people of Mendoza are waiting to welcome you!

Day 2

Today is the day your mission comes to life! After preparing, organizing supplies, and getting to know your team, it’s time to meet the communities of Mendoza and begin providing care.

Your team will travel to the first village clinic, where local families and community members will be waiting to receive care. Working alongside local partners, you’ll set up clinic stations, welcome patients, and begin providing medical and dental services to individuals who may have limited access to healthcare.

Throughout the day, you’ll encounter a variety of health needs and opportunities to make a difference. Beyond treating patients, you’ll share practical health education, promote preventive care, and empower individuals and families with knowledge they can take home.

Every patient interaction matters. Every conversation builds trust. Every bit of education creates an opportunity for healthier futures.

At the end of the day, your team will come together to debrief, share experiences, and prepare for the next clinic.

Today, you move beyond preparation and into purpose. The people you came to serve are no longer names on an itinerary—they are the reason you’re here. Let the impact begin!

Day 3

Building Connections, Expanding Care

A new day of service begins! After a hearty breakfast, you and your team will set out for your second clinic day, returning to the communities of Mendoza to continue providing much-needed medical and dental care.

By now, you’ve found your rhythm as a team, and the connections you began building on day one will continue to grow. You’ll welcome new patients, reconnect with community members, and work together to address a variety of health concerns. Each clinic brings different needs, different stories, and new opportunities to make a meaningful difference.

Health education remains an important part of today’s mission. Mendoza’s semi-arid climate, abundant sunshine, and limited rainfall make conversations about hydration, sun protection, and heat-related illness especially relevant. You’ll have opportunities to share practical information about preventing illness, recognizing early warning signs, maintaining good hygiene, and knowing when to seek medical attention.

You’ll also continue sharing essential skills in mental health awareness, basic first aid, family wellness, and preventive healthcare. These conversations are just as important as the clinical care itself. When people have the knowledge and confidence to make informed health decisions, the impact of your service can extend well beyond the clinic.

At the end of another rewarding day, your team will come together to reflect, share experiences, and celebrate the small moments that make this mission so meaningful.

Day two is about building on yesterday’s impact—one patient, one conversation, and one connection at a time.

Day 4

Every Patient. Every Moment. Every Difference.

The mission continues! Clinics begin early in the morning and often run into the evening. Your days will be full, your energy will be tested, and the need for care will remind you why you came.

As you return to the communities around Mendoza, you’ll continue working alongside your team and local partners to provide medical and dental services to individuals and families who may otherwise go without care. Each day brings new patients, new challenges, and opportunities to make a difference.

Beyond the clinical care, keep sharing your knowledge. Whether you’re teaching basic first aid, discussing mental health and emotional wellness, encouraging preventive health practices, or helping families recognize when to seek medical attention, the education you provide can have an impact long after the clinic closes.

Take time to listen to patients, learn from local providers, and appreciate the trust community members place in your team. Sometimes the most meaningful moments happen outside the exam room—in a conversation, a shared smile, or the reassurance of knowing someone cares.

The days may be long and physically demanding, but they are also incredibly rewarding. At the end of the day, you’ll have more than a list of patients served. You’ll have shared knowledge, built relationships, and been part of something that matters.

Keep showing up. Keep giving your best. The impact of your service is measured not only in the care you provide, but in the lives you touch.

Day 5

Stronger Together. Making Every Moment Count.

Another morning, another opportunity to make a difference! As your team heads back into the communities surrounding Mendoza, the mission continues with renewed purpose and a growing understanding of the people you are privileged to serve.

By now, the faces may be becoming familiar. Trust is growing, relationships are taking shape, and your team is finding new ways to work together to meet the needs of each community. From medical and dental care to health education and preventive wellness, every service matters.

Continue looking beyond the immediate health concern. Take time to educate, encourage questions, and share practical tools that individuals and families can use in their everyday lives. Whether you’re helping someone understand a health condition, teaching a first-aid skill, or simply offering a listening ear, these moments are an important part of the mission.

And don’t forget to learn from those around you. Your local partners, fellow volunteers, and the community members themselves have knowledge and experiences worth sharing.

The hours may be long, but the purpose remains strong. Keep bringing your expertise, compassion, energy, and willingness to serve.

Every day brings another opportunity to turn compassion into action and make health and hope more accessible.

Free Day / Training Day Option

Day 6

Training & Education Day | Sharing Knowledge. Strengthening Communities.

Today offers a meaningful opportunity to extend your impact beyond the clinic. Your team will have the option to participate in educational activities and skills-sharing with local healthcare providers and community members—or enjoy a well-deserved day to explore Mendoza and experience more of Argentina.

Option 1: Community Training & Education

At International Medical Relief, we believe education is just as important as medical and dental care. Treating an illness addresses an immediate need; sharing knowledge and practical skills helps prevent future illness and builds healthier, more resilient communities.

For those participating, your team will work alongside local healthcare providers and community members to lead educational sessions, hands-on demonstrations, and practical training. Topics may include basic first aid, mental health awareness, preventive healthcare, oral hygiene, maternal and family wellness, and recognizing common health concerns.

This is an opportunity to exchange knowledge, strengthen local skills, and support the people who will continue caring for their communities long after our team departs.

Option 2: Explore Mendoza!

After several rewarding and busy days in the field, take the opportunity to recharge and experience the beauty and culture of Mendoza. Whether you choose to explore the city, discover the region’s celebrated vineyards and olive groves, enjoy the local cuisine, or simply relax with fellow volunteers, this is your time to enjoy the experience.

However you choose to spend the day, the mission continues. Through education, shared experiences, and meaningful connections, we hope you leave Mendoza with more than memories—you’ll take home a deeper appreciation for the people, partnerships, and possibilities that make this work so meaningful.
