Hygiene Kits
In 2018, IMR taught more than 27,000 patients about the importance of hand washing. We distributed thousands of hygiene kits containing bars of soap, combs, nail clippers and nail files and washcloths to communities around the world. We need your help to continue reaching those in need.
Help Children Stay in School
In Nicaragua, a Raman mother walked into clinic on the San Juan River with her small daughter wrapped tightly in a blanket in her arms. The girl had been suffering from diarrhea. She was weak and dehydrated and had missed nearly two weeks of school. Now her brothers and sisters were also sick. We gave the entire family bars of soap and education on hygiene, plus medicines to get them better.
Keeping children healthy and in school has tremendous value long term to the entire family. Missing school has a cascading effect on children’s progress. Sometimes they are unable to catch up. The Rahman mother wanted to help her children catch up but was unable to help – she can’t read.
A Do-It-Yourself Vaccine
The CDC states that handwashing is “like a do-it-yourself vaccine” that involves 5 simple steps – wet, lather, scrub, rinse, dry. Quick. Simple. The only requirement is to have the actual soap, along with a clean source of water. And many of the communities IMR visits is lacking both.
We are campaigning around the world to provide the clean water and soap to stop the spread of diseases that is ending of the lives of so many way too early. It is an effective way to fight keep communities, schools and households safe and healthy.
Children around the world die every day of preventable illnesses caused by the spread of germs. Illnesses like diarrhea and respiratory infections are commonly transferred from unwashed hands, and the lack of clean hands can also contribute to the spread of Salmonella, E. coli, norovirus, adenovirus, hand-foot-mouth disease, and more.
Hand washing reduces the number of people who get sick with diarrheal diseases by 30%. For those with compromised immune systems, the reduction is by 58%.
Help give the gift of clean hands and healthier communities through hygiene kits from IMR.
